1200-year-old sanskrit poetry

Anonymous sanskrit poetry, traced back to at least 900 CE.

They lay upon the bed each turned aside,
suffering in silence;
though love still dwelt within their hearts
each feared a loss of pride;
But then out of the corner of their eyes,
their sidelong glances met
and the quarrel broke in laughter as they turned around
and clasped each other's neck.
