Here's a poem from when I was little. Enjoy.
My Name is JeeJee Boy...
My name is JeejeeBhoy Jamshedji,
The Parsis call me J.I.G.
Parsi driver of GIP
Engine number 63
From Bombay to Chinchpokli...
Chorus
Now I am old and weary
Drinking wine and whisky
I am old and weary
And JeejeeBhoy is my name
Verse 2
One day when I went to school
I called my teacher big fat fool
The teacher hit with a big bamboo And on my head came a big limboo
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3
One day when I was sick in bed
The doctor thought that I was dead
He put me in a big coffin
I jumped out and he jumped in
Repeat Chorus
PS: You wont find it ANYWHERE IN THE INTERNET...
Parsi driver of GIP
Engine number 63
From Bombay to Chinchpokli...
Chorus
Now I am old and weary
Drinking wine and whisky
I am old and weary
And JeejeeBhoy is my name
Verse 2
One day when I went to school
I called my teacher big fat fool
The teacher hit with a big bamboo And on my head came a big limboo

My name is JeejeeBhoy Jamshedji,

Thank you so much for this. How I remember the first paragraph:
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jeejeboy Jamsetji
A Parsi guard in the GIP
Engine number 63
That runs from here to Chinchpok
I wonder what the origin of the rhyme is
My school teacher used to sing this song. It is a rare song indeed.
DeleteActually There are some changes
ReplyDeleteJijiboy, Jijiboy Jamshedji
Pocketful of VIP
Driving engine no 420
From Byculla to Chinchpokli
Thanks for those lines.
ReplyDeleteIndeed fond memories.
We dont know the real origin of the song. So it was adapted as per the place but what matters is that I have finally found it here.
I would hum it often all along but had forgotten one verse during these years but now I've got a few more of the local adaptations, but all good ones ,Our Teacher Mrs Divya Joshi taught us around 50 years back . Shall pass on to the younger ones
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the golden childhood memories
What about this verse?
ReplyDeleteOne fine morning in the middle of the night
Two dead donkeys began to fight
A paralyzed donkey passing by
Kicked the blind man in his eye
Now I'm old and weary...
My remix
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jiji boy Jamsetji
I lived in the town of PIG
I travelled on bus 420
from Byculla to Chinchpokli
Now I'm old and weary
drinking wine and whisky
now I'm old and weary
Jiji boy is my name
When I was young I went to school
I called my teacher a big fat fool
The teacher hit me with a big bamboo
And on my head came a big limboo
Now I'm old and weary
Drinking wine and whisky
Now I'm old and weary
Jiji boy is my name
When I sick I was in hospital
The doctor thought that I was dead
He put me in a coffin
And I jumped out and he jumped in.
The original song is probs lost forever but I think we r close!
For me this is how the first verse went (this is circa 2005/6):
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jijiboy Johnsonji {yeah, I don't know why it became Johnson}
The Parsis call me VIP
I was born in Jogeshwari
Engine No. 93
I am so sad and weary
Drinking wine and sherry
I am so sad and weary
And Jijiboy is my name
I agree with most of the replies, memories of childhood. Don't know why I'm remembering such old things now. Thanks a bunch
ReplyDeleteI have another version which my Mom used to sing for me when I was small
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jiggy boy Jamshedjii
A parsi guy in the gip
Born in 1923
On a road that leads to julunderji
Now I am old and weary
Then same
Another verse is
ReplyDeleteSix months leave i took last year
To go and see my girlie dear
Taking leave is very very fine
Can't get a job in the railway line
Now I'm old and weary......
This song was a favourite in the Hyderabad Public School ( India) hostel in the later 70's, I was a hosteller in 76 period and we kids sang this when ever the power blew up every night. Beautiful memories with Ansarulla, Harmeet, Ravinder, Jiten to name but a few
