Public transport in NYC is even better thanks to the OMNY system!

This will be a quick one compared to all the relatively in-depth and introspective posts I've written today.

NYC has implemented this new 'OMNY' system of payment in public transport where you can just tap your phone at subway stations and buses and you get your tickets automatically. You also get your bus-train transfers in there, plus if you happen to spend more than $34 a week, which is 12 rides, you don't get charged anymore. Effectively the system decides you 'bought' a weekly pass and stops charging you anymore.

While that means you won't be able to 'double tap', pretty much everybody these days has a phone or a card, and can take advantage of this system. If you really really want, you can still buy those old-timey metro passes, but they're a hassle to carry and maintain.

Public transport in NYC was always ever so convenient and quick. The most annoying part was having to buy passes and remembering to take them to the city every time, but that's gone now as well. Honestly, one would have to be a real cheap bastard to avoid paying the train fees now.

What a wonderful system it is! It would be excellent for all if Seattle could implement it as well, but what are the changes, with our dysfunction and all?
