Back with the writing group [ Wednesday 11]

I was far, far too optimistic yesterday about the bus lanes on broadway. They're not there yet, so that 15-minute trip to Sullivan Square almost ended up taking 30 minutes yesterday morning. I got to to work slightly later than I usually do.

For lunch JC and I went to Trident books, thanks to my company's buddy system. We planned on going to the Ramen place that's right across from the Prudential, but it was packed like sardines. There must have been a dozen hot and sweaty people out in the midday sun waiting to be seated, so we figured if even the ramen were the best one we'd ever have for the rest of our lives, it wouldn't be worth spending the entire workday outside waiting for it. So we went to Trident, which is a couple of minutes walk from there. In case you don't know the story behind Trident books and cafe, I love it. Love, love it. It's a cute little book store that also has a small bar and a cafe. They do breakfast, brunch, and a weird mixture of American and Amerixican foods. JC got a breakfast omelette (he says the menu was really difficult to order from), and I got the beyond burger.

There's no blaming anyone else but me here, but in the pile of potato chips/crisps, I did not see the tomato/onion/lettuce on my plate, so I hate the plain beyond burger with avocadoes. I like BK's better. You can still taste the 'pea-protein' flavor, the texture is not something that made me fall in love with it, and perhaps it was the lack of other condiments, but it did not evoke any emotions inside of me. I didn't think anything of it. Perhaps it could be construed as a compliment for people coming from a pro-meat backgrounds, but there's nothing much to write about. As they say, it wasn't something to write home about.

The rest of the day went by pretty quick, and we had a small party at work in the afternoon to celebrate a customer milestone. I ate half a georgetown cupcake, and bailed out while everyone was distracted by conversations. Went to the dollar store to get a couple of items I was eyeing, didn't get sugar, or the deodorant I'd seen two days earlier. I did get a big plastic container, which is going to be great for my oyster mushrooms.

After I got back, I was really hot and tired -- it was surprisingly hot and humid yesterday, my roommate called it the last real day of summer, in a somewhat nostalgic, but also gleeful tone, and I'd agree with him. It was annoyingly humid, but we're going to miss all of that as we go into Fall and then Winter, so it's not all celebrations. I rested for about an hour, took care of my sprouts, looked up logistics of biking, and biked to the writing group in Harvard Square that rekindled my current writing habit/mania.

The folks there were great as always, and I found out they'd been running the group for five years(!) now. They're all better writers than I am, but it's not really a competition since we're taking different paths and going to different places so it's not only pointless, but rather misleading to compare who's ahead. There were a couple of new folks who joined yesterday and they seemed pretty fun. I got about 2200 words written in the hour/hour-and-half we were there, which would make my word count from yesterday to be about...4,000, rounding up. So exciting! I'd like to thank my friends, family, and all of you dear readers, which means you, and you, literally the two of you atmost. In any case, I did do what I thought was a pretty good comedy writing at the final prompt, but then it was time for us to leave, so I didn't get to share that with the group. There was a D&D group right next to us, they were pretty loud and seemed to be having a heck of a time. I'd join that D&D group if they'd take me in, but I'm not sure if I want conflict between that and what I did yesterday.

After I got back, on train and then bike, I talked to folks a bit, made some dinner (cucumber, crumbled feta, spicy powder mix, lemon juice -- if I'd added a little more salt, it'd have been tasty as well as healthy, but I'm learning!), set the oyster mushroom log to soak, went for the daily run (yes, I'll run in the evening regardless of what other things I did over the day, because it's a habit, and habits can't be fluctuating) and then completed the daily chores before writing a bit and going to bed. Sleep was relatively easy to come by.
