On Five Spices

We wanted to go to Hot Eastern today, because that's the place I know and trust, and the food is extremely reliable. It turns out though, that the place may have shut down. We -- meaning TD and I -- went there to the 'food court' for Linner, google said it was open, and the place was cordoned off. Seemed like it was a closed shop? It's unclear what's happening in there. This link suggests that the place may be rebranding or reorganizing, it's unclear. https://bostonrestaurants.blogspot.com/2019/11/hot-eastern-in-bostons-chinatown-may-be.html

So our other option was the dumpling cafe which had long lines and TD didn't want to wait in the line for Asian food because she does live in Singapore and it's a part of the culture there to wait for hours and hours for good food and it's also kind-of a capital for Asian food. We ended up going to Five Spices which was the place the next next door. It was well-rated and I haven't heard anything bad about it.

We went there. It's expensive, a little unjustifiably so, but their serving sizes are huge and they do a 'hot pot' style of presentation for a lot of their dishes. And you don't get rice with the entrees. But oof, good food, such spicy, so ma la, and the two appetizers and two entrees we ordered would have been sufficient for maybe a total of five, maybe even six meals if we cook rice at home. It's great food, a little expensive, but the prices are good, a great place to be if you like spicy food. Which I do even though I haven't had such spicy food in a long while. Still it is quite good and if Hot Eastern disappears this might be the next go-to place for me when the other good places aren't open anymore.

A surprisingly good find really.
