Pitiful monsters

Night-dwelling monsters aren't afraid of the brightness, they're afraid of the truth, real things being real. Vampires don't care for being burned to a crisp by the sunlight they can do sunscreens they aren't stupid. They are however proud and have a fragile ego, they don't want to see themselves as the evil incarnate the world perceives them to be. In their minds they are just regular folk with unconventional sleeping patterns and complicated diet. They don't intend on hurting anyone they're not bloodthirsty monsters, they're just the blood-dependent. Imagine someone with a rare genetic disease that screwed with their blood and they needed transfusions every so while. And the great thing about it would be, while human blood would be ideal, animal blood would do just as fine as well. You wouldn't even have to kill the animals. It would be an expensive lifestyle, but hey the vampires have hundreds of years of belongings and experience, stories to share friends to make investments to choose, they're fine financially. And if they're poor they could just start a farm to harvest blood of healthy fat animals and sell th blood to other vampires. A subscription service, so to speak. Just like fElon musk and Peter thiel. One could argue that vampires have caused less pain suffering and deaths then Thiel and it'd be accurate too.

Back to the literal monsters. Vampires don't dare looking at themselves on a bright sunny day, or in front of a mirror at any time. They can't stand the truth, so to speak. Their self-image would be shattered, they wouldn't know what to do, seeing themselves in the same light everyone sees them in. They don't want to be monsters they've just been put in that difficult situation, they're in self-denial for self-preservation.
