The banjhakri

The ban jhankri is a mystical creature, appearing only in the low mountains South of the Himalayas to those who truly deserve them. They teach the art of medicine and fortune-telling to young boys and girls after abducting them in their adolescence, releasing them to serve their communities when they are well-trained. The ban-jhankri lives with his female counterpart the ban-jhankrini, they are not considered social beings though unlike the communities they serve they are often monogamous.

From Wikipedia:

Although Banjhākri abducts boys (and, by some accounts, girls), he does not do so out of malice. He trains the children who pass Banjhākrini's initiation.

The ban jhakrini is rumoured to eat children alive, but evidence for such events is light and can often be attributed to parents and family attempting to explain away mysterious disappearance of their children. Those that have had experiences with banjhakrini report only pleasant positive experiences that do not resemble an attempt to eat them alive

My friend sbk had an experience with a female trainee of the ban jhakri. She had been reportedly abducted at the age of eight to be taught all the shamanistic arts, and released when she was seventeen. Thereon she walked from one village to other helping people with their illnesses, foretelling their misfortune and ways to avoid them. My friend's experience involved her predicting severe illness of his mother including the kind of illness and the remarriage or his father after her expiration, both of which came true less than a decade after his encounter.

Strange. But true.
