Not much to talk with married couples with kids

I can usually keep myself engaged and entertained in a group of mostly-strangers. Often the idea to introduce yourself and slide into a conversation. I'm not making new friends or connections that way, but I am also not bored and looking at my phone hoping I were elsewhere. Not to brag but one could also say I'm quite good at striking conversations with strangers if the situation so demands.

Things went quite differently for me yesterday though. We were at a child's birthday party, with a dozen-and-half under 5 kids, many many parents and grandparents too. And of them I knew 3 people including a 3. 5 year old and had been previously acquainted with two people.

The thing is, it's much harder to strike up a conversation in a group of new-ish parents if you don't have a child and would rather talk about literally anything else since that's all you've heard the whole day. Like, it's a bit much, but what do you even talk about, how do you get started on the stock market as literally any other topic in the universe?

It got so bad I went downstairs to the basement playroom and holed up there for a bit which turned out to be a bad idea seeing as it was a kid's birthday party.

I wouldn't say I was bored into oblivion, but I've definitely gone to better parties, even for kids, for sure.
