Center of attraction

The orbs that floated twenty feet above the river surface had no apparent source of energy. They appeared one day out of nowhere, the villagers had seen more interesting things happen on the internet, the first time it caught public attention was seven months after the fact when a group of astrophysicists on a hiking trip discovered them. They became an instant global phenomena.

Before the incident, there were seven thousand thirteen residents in the village which was now technically a town, consisting largely of young children and the elderly. After the incident, that bulged to 70,000, 300 registered hotels opened in a span of two years and there were as many that didn't bother registering. The town whose major industry had been catering to foreign hikers on their way to  more interesting places found itself as the center of attention.
