As I write this at 10.40, I'm talking to friends outside the U.S. Need to get to bed soon. Just finished writing the short and disappointing piece that's the previous post. It's 11.10 now and i have no idea where the last 30 minutes went. Read a bit of Light Fantastic in between.
I was out in the common room with roommate BB watching The Office and writing. It was just two of us because roommates PK and SM, and friends-of-the-house JS and AD went to a Malden Pizza shop to get Nepali momos. A Nepali owner who took over a profitable pizza shop. It was supposed to be JS's surprise party but he unwittingly foiled it by making other plans. It's possible they may be doing a surprise party at his place anyway or it's just the four guys hanging together, but when they left they said they were getting momos which I don't like anymore or care for so let that be the end of it.
We talked about buying cars (thus the previous post about cars), dating people (some people are accusing some people of hiding their statuses and some people are denying everything), what people like to eat in dates (not lattkes and matzo balls apparently, I learn so much every day), and even some important issues like genital mutilation in males.
Before the guys came in, I was napping or trying to nap. I had a solid dinner at 5 which I made right after I got back from work and that was at 4 -- we had a long daylong meeting at work after which they let us leave at 3. I made fried potatoes. Four small potatoes, first in high heat vegetable oil until they burn a little, covered, then lowered heat until they cook, add salt and pepper first, wait until it's almost done, add butter, chopped garlic and spices of choices and cook uncovered in medium heat until the garlic start browning and the potatoes get soft. Scrambled eggs cooked in the leftover oil of the potatoes. A spicy dip of sriracha, sweet soy sauce and sweet hoisin sauce, don't go easy on the sriracha and soy sauce for the sweetness needs to be overpowered. All eaten with a single slice of toasted 12-grain bread. It was a lot of potatoes, I guess that's why I felt the need to nap.
Commute back home Green->Red->Walk, took me an hour which was fine it was a good day to walk. Listened to podcasts all the way. Work was...all meeting over the day, so I didn't get to do any of the writing stuff, but we got lunch went to the other building and explored their amenities caught up with former young-coworkers of ours. Meeting started at 9, I was unsure if I wanted to go, went to regular desk and messaged manager who said it'd be good for me if I went, spilled a glass of water all over my desk to which coworker KB said it's nbd it's all going to dry out.
Morning commute was as optimized as possible, caught the bus right as I got to the stop, caught the train right as it stopped, caught the green line right as it stopped too. So this was one of the faster commutes even though the waiting lines at Sullivan were insanely long and it was almost impossible to have made it, the incoming trains were empty so everything worked out great.
Got up early in the morning but lazed around so actually got out of bed pretty late. It was because I ended up going to bed late last night for no good reason. I should really make a strict rule of going to bed on time. One of the easiest causes to break your discipline or body habits is to disrupt your body's needs, and not getting sufficient sleep is one of them. It's seriously bad. I need to reconsider my life choices at this point.
Forgot to mention in yesterday's post (or maybe I mentioned it, not sure) but here it is: there used to be an old 'zine' site in Kathmandu back in the day which I admired (though honestly never read that much) whose domain registration had expired last year. I bought the domain name yesterday for as cheap as I could get, and now I plan to bring back the zine eventually. Fingers crossed.
