This is one of those low-stake achievements that feels really really really big because of how long it took me to get something done, finally.
As I've written in the past on this blog, I've made several attempts to get a state ID made in my stay in America. They have all been thwarted for one reason or another. Perhaps this was my fifth attempt, but the other day, Thursday probably, I went to the License office, showed them my ID documents, and gave them the form that I'd been handed way back when my ID application was rejected. And guess what? I finally got it approved! Ten days from my date of appointment, I should have a state ID on me.
And now that it's successful I'm wondering if I ever needed it.
They asked me if I wanted it for six, or eight years, and I said eight, unthinkingly. Probably made the application more expensive. And boiii was the ID expensive. 75 bucks! Plus I have to surrender it if I ever get my driving license made in this state. Which is another way of saying that it was a bet on the likelihood of me getting a driver's license in WA, and I bet on the 'unlikely' side of it. Sounds about right, considering the pattern.
Well at least I won't lose my passport and travel documents when traveling domestically. Though perhaps getting passport remade would have been cheaper? Who even...
