Review of Awkwafina is Nora from Queens

It's a show on some streaming service I forget which one. It's co-produced and written by Awkwafina the popular performer who's in the process of being 'cancelled' but really this bullshit movement who'll eat its children and has absolutely no ideological or philosophical backing and cares only in feeling good about itself without concerning itself with consequences of the actions, who's really adorable and sweet, man I like her so much.

This is a show about a Chinese-Korean American girl who's dropped out of her PhD program. She's a stoner, a complete loser with not too many dreams and ambitions, and a very chill and understanding family. Her grandmother is cool, and her dad understanding. She is surrounded by kind, understanding and generally nice friends and acquaintances in a neighborhood of queens that feels much nicer than it should be (?). Makes me want to go to NYC actually. Ack.

Season 1's great, I'm told the second season was a disappointment, but there's a few visual gags that were so outrageous (such as an impossibly large dildo and vibrator hanging around in the scene) it fell fresh and funny.

Some reviewers online have called it 'yet another stoner comedy' but that's doing a big disfavor to the great writing and editing involved. Even if it were yet another stoner comedy, it reflects the zeitgeist of our time, our concerns and issues and is funny and thought-provocative regardless.
