So I had the good fortune to stay at the Gokarna Resort for a couple of days over the vacation when I was in Nepal in December. The resort's fine, whatever, but I'd like to write a few words on the restaurants in there.
It's the worst. The food is incredibly mediocre, subpar were it not for the outrageous unjustifiable prices that force you to reconsider the quality of the grub. The options are wildly limited. The prices...are offensive, an exercise in financial domination. Only a turn-on if you're into the weird stuff.
Twenty four hundred rupees for an incredibly bland and limited Nepali thali set that didn't include achaar or ghiu. Eight hundred fifty bucks for a plate of veggie momo that could be more accurately described as a salty ball of dough. We tried every single menu item several times and every time it was a wave of disappointment.
The only redeeming part of eating at the resort was the catered breakfast included with the rooms, though technically that's not a part of the restaurant menu.
Spending several days at the resort and eating exclusively at the restaurants inside would be a practice in self-punishment suitable only to those who loathe themselves more than anything in the world. The most unfortunate part of the experience is that there's no escape, no nearby restaurants or eateries to go to unless you drive for a solid ten minute or so in light traffic.
It's a sign of the greatest disrespect when I can say in all honesty that I'd rather eat meals exclusively cooked by myself for the rest of my life rather than being forced to eat there for a week.
Unfortunate, very unfortunate.
