House tours [Thu 11]

Got up early, but lazed around until work hours. Talked to family in the morning, got working. Work was strange...Empty business. Since the release date is so much closer, most of our tasks are bugfixing or testing, and there's often drought or flood with regards to work.

Skipped eating breakfast with PN because of the intermittent fasting. Had Roti and chana ko tarkari for lunch, put extra butter on the warm rotis. So healthy so filling, Yum!

Went to see three houses after work with PN. The first house I liked, and so did the other two. The second house I disliked but they liked. Back home, we had lengthy and sometimes loud conversations about what variables to consider when buying a house. We talked about when it makes to buy a house as an investment property, and when it makes more sense to buy a house more as a place of abode than an investment. We looked at relative returns from various forms of investment versus real estate. We talked about how the resale value of a house has certain considerations that might not make it the best place to live. And how the economics of housing in the U.S leads to really boring looking houses that are basically lazily designed boxes on the outside and often quite lacking in sense in the inside. Which makes it very difficult for nice designer houses to be popular in the market -- because their resale value is often indeterminate. I pushed them to consider buying designer houses, in the end we came to the understanding this would be a good investment as a first property, and designer houses are to be slated for a future purchase. The calculations and discussions and the simulations went way past midnight.

For dinner we had pasta with simple sauce and eggplant as a topping, with good parmesan shavings on top. Eggplant with pasta sounds like a strange combo, but Yum! NG is a really great cook and she can make any combination work!
