It's June so it's time to celebrate...Okay look, this was going to be a 'funny' piece on some season-appropriate cultural festival and how you could celebrate that. Unfortunately, wikipedia doesn't give me any good festival for this month. This is apparently the month for 'rath yatra' which means 'chariot ride', it sounds like a boring festival honestly. Everyone gets on their chariot or horse card and they probably like ride around and...maybe there's more to it if I bothered looking it up. But that's not the point. The point is this: there's not enough holidays in June and I need them bad man. Real bad. If the next big holiday in the U.S. is July the fourth then that's a solid month of two-day weekends and five days of waiting for the work to end only to have the weekends be just as hectic in fun-having as the rest of the days. And sure that's fun, you're with your roommates or whatever I won't even mention you assholes with partners because get over it. We get it. You're having fuuun and don't need other people. Let's not digress here though the original point was this: we need to have a festival in June, and it needs to be big, so why don't we come up with one and make it a thing. Us romantically unaffiliated persons need something to keep us occupied too.
So obviously it can't be about love or any of that couples bullshit because they've already got enough of those. No children either because...no thank you, that's what you have the birthdays and christmas here and tihar in Nepal for. No dressing up either because inasmuch as I want to see myself as a cool person who dresses up for interesting occasions, it's just...not...in me, okay and people who sew are in high demand. No-go there either. Can't be a spring festival because too much love and sex connotation, can't be a harvest festival because they're always always excuses to get drunk blind and I don't drink. So. Labor day's already taken. We need a festival where one can just chill at home without feeling obliged to do anything, even meet people. Play-dead-festival would be good, except it sounds too much like a celebration intended exclusively for dogs. So that won't work.
Joon is moon in Nepali, possibly also a flower in English, I know very little language, any language. But June the actress is my favourite person from the podcast. And the month is June. How about this: a midnight flower festival where you look at....the moon...and like...offer...flowers on your own. Without family or too many friends. But you need a holiday for it because... you're supposed to rest for the rest of the day as an honor to the moon god. Who is, if you'll remember, a major character in one of my plotlines. He's supposed to be a cool guy, and that's not just because the Moon is supposed to exude coolness. Hmm. So a moon-worship festival where you offer the moon flowers. Not a bad idea, not...a bad idea. And you eat salad and other fragrant things right out of plants. Edible flowers and berries are always good. Smoothies. Anything low in sugar.
That's my festival right there: a June festival for the Moon, where you offer roses to the moon god because from the very limited research I just did, that's the flower of the month for the month. Done! Now gotta write up that request for holiday.
