The original idea was to be a wanderer, a habitual couch-crasher. Crash in Boston, crash in Philly, crash in rural Northern Virginia, crash in New Hampshire, crash in Chicago, crash in Colorado, crash in Seattle, crash more in Seattle, crash in Portland OR maybe, crash in the Bay Area, crash more in the Bay Area, crash in LA, and then back to Boston, and various folks' place. Optional home-deficiency, you could say.
Two things have made me reconsider. The first, the uhh, situation on the ground currently. It's becoming quite clear to everyone it's not going to be over by September, most definitely not in the U.S, though EU might be doing quite well by then. And second, despite things not being in the clear, they might want be back for on-site at work. I do miss on-site work a bit, it'd be nice to see coworkers' faces again, back in those narrow streets, get some semblance of stability for a bit. It'll have been six/seven months I'll have been uhh uprooted by September. Socially-distanced physical work.
Also SS (Phd) offered me a place, and that helps a lot with planning.
Still, I'm evaluating. If Nederlands and Germany are doing well by then, it might make more sense to be holed-up in there with near-and-dear ones than being holed up here with folks I'll have annoyed for many many weeks by then. And I've always wanted to go to Europe. Not travel, no no, I'm not a big fan of traveling and touristing, just putting my ass down and chillin' staying somewhere eating working doing the groceries cooking. Seeing what life in Europe would be. That'd be helpful for future planning too.
Then November would come by, they're saying it could well be a month before the results come out but that's fine. By late November, I'd have a clearer idea of where I'd want to be.
Then there's a possibility I'd be in Boston after that, but that's uhh counting on too many variables I don't have any control over. Lets not worry about that right now.
