Got up early, went back to sleep listening to HDTGM. Got up at nine-ish, cleaned up the place, attended the Nepali zoom meeting thing which bombed, that turned into hangouts meeting. Kept getting distracted from it. S made pancakes and min-quiche. I gobbled up some, before leaving to see houses with PN.
We visited three houses. The first one was dark gloomy and cold, and only one room -- the master bedroom -- got any light in there. The second one had a really cool kitchen...a cafe-style, but not enough privacy. The third one was a opener version of the second house, with vinyl faux wood and old-style un-updated bathroom. The technology and architecture available for even the mid-range bathrooms today is pretty incredible folks, the world has made a lot of progress since the 80's when most of our bathrooms and toilets were updated. Nepali toilets and bathrooms are still in the 1930's by the way.
After checking out the houses, we went on a drive away from DC. Big lawns where horses roamed, incredibly large palace-style houses with yards that extended for acres, glittering gated communities where people looked at our car with great suspicion. The most interesting part of all of this was there was only one house that had the trump2020 signs in the front. Either people are too afraid of associated with the venereal disease, or there's legitimately less support even in rich rural virginia. Either way that's one positive thing in weeks.
Returned to S's, who made us sadheko grapefruit and mandarin oranges. So bitter, so sweet, so sour. So good. He also made us really advanced mixed drink involving bitters -- which N had left behind before moving to Philly last september, the move that I was with him for -- and several herbs that I can't pronounce. We watched tv, listened to songs and chilled a bit. Watched couple of tiny house videos. A came in, and we ate eggs and chiura pulao. So filling. This was only 5 in the afternoon and we were so full.
Then we played poker. And played and played and played. I lost a lot at the start and then kept winning back and then more and more and more. We played for seven hours non-stop, in between S went and warmed us pizza from the previous night as snacks, we had pringles too. That was all we had for all those hours and we weren't hungry at all. The thrill of the game filled us up. They're saying I've improved in the game and it'd be a wild game to include N and me in the same one. Six people poker game is an interesting dynamic too, they say.
It was really late at night, but more importantly we were all knackered. S lost his second buy-in and we ended the game. A went to her house soon after. We spent the two following hours talking, half asleep. It was mostly me narrating my future plans and explaining my decisions. The more I tell my plans to people, the more they tell me to reconsider and have it be more flexible. My current take on this is, I'm going to be flexible, but keep all my options open, including ones that take a lot of planning and coordination. So best case scenario I never have to act on them and things can go on generally without too much disruption. Less-than-best case scenario but still a good scenario: I execute those plans, but I'm well prepared for those so it goes well either way.
PN left at 2.15 ish in the morning. Went to sleep at 2.30, fell asleep within 15 mins.
