I bought the green 'powder of wood' cheese parmesan bottle from Trader Joe's yesterday. Two girls were talking about how it was so bad but they craved it sometime anyway and I figured I'd give it a shot. I have had it a few times in college but never since, and wanted a reminder of how bad it really was.
And you know what. It was quite good. The pasta I had made and was eating for a couple of days was kinda ugh, but after a couple of shakes of this cheese, and a few hits of the olive oil (the nicest one at TJ's)? Amah.zing. For real, I'm surprised and impressed how good it was, the smell so pungent and strong in a good way, able to change texture of the pasta right away, stick to nooks and crannies and give it a certain how-do-you-say-in-french, that you can only understand when you eat mediocre pasta with the generic parmesan product when super duper craving powder cheese. Yum. Yum. Yum.
I had another meal with shavings of parmagiano reggiano, and there was not as much of a difference as one might otherwise think.
Highly recommend, what a pleasant surprise!
