I need to get the 50lb sweet glutinous rice from Hau Hau market because then it'll cost be less than a dollar a pound for so much rice. Right now I'm paying more than $2, as much as $2.50 for a pound, so for the money that'll buy me 15lbs of rice, I'll be able to get three times as much, without much difference in quality. That means more rice-based experimentation, more cooking, more rice-wine making, more fermentation in general.
This came up because I have been looking for people with cars who can give me a lift to bring those sacks home. Now I know three people with cars who I'm quite comfortable calling favors for, but haven't yet because to bring 50lb of rice into your small single-bedroom apartment is a commitment I'm not sure I want to jump into right away but probably will have to soon. Friend GS bought a car recently, he went from never having driven before just like me, to learning to drive, to getting his learner's permit and license, to buying a car and driving it to work in less than a month. What a baller. And he's driven to faraway towns to drop friend AS too. He's offered to give me the lift should the need arise. I was talking to my cousin the other day (more on that in the incoming journal posts) and he has a car too, he was super excited about chhang too, so he too is happy to be of help. Finally friend PS has a car, enjoys the company, and is happy to help out as well. So maybe not for long-distance trips, but for shorter ones I've got a decent squad willing to help me with the groceries.
Hey, that isn't nothing...
