Covid updates

Things are looking up in the States and in Europe, the situation in Nepal and India is terrible.

It's looking like in a month, a month-half, we're going to go back to things as normal in this part of the world. Large crowded venues will start hosting people, tourism will see a massive surge, bars restaurants, parks will all open up. Weddings and parties will be through the roof. The summer of 2021 will be a happy and enjoyable one for people in the US.

The situation will be...bad...in South Asia, among other places. There's an effective state of emergency/curfew around those parts, and the numbers are still record-breaking. The positivity rates are still above sixty percent which suggests the numbers being under-counted by at least an order of magnitude, and deaths keep on inching up and up and up. The health systems have seen close to total collapses, and the hospital wards have only covid patients, pretty much. If you were bound to do anything cool or interesting, this would be a very very bad time to get hurt, or get a stroke or a heart attack, even break a leg, because it's quite likely you'll catch covid at the hospital as well.

The vaccine numbers are pitiable. At this rate it'll take years for the populace to be protected from the ravage of the disease. There's no institutional capacity and the proper logistics to significantly scale up vaccine acquisition and distribution, even if somebody provided them with great generosity and magnanimity. With the American vaccines, there's no infrastructure that can even store those, so that's another factor to consider.

It's unclear when this peak will start coming down, but these insane numbers could be with us for a few more weeks. Even after the numbers come to a manageable region, then what? With the density, the lack of proper control practices and the way economy is structured, it's possible there'll be another wave in two months hereon, it could be a lot worse than right now, with the lack of vaccines at all. And the toll it's been taking on the economy is something else, we're just talking about basic survival at this point.

We need a miracle to happen for the situation to be under control in the near future. Miracles happen all the time, often with the push and dedication of human beings. Let's hope this matter is of importance to people who matter and who have the ability to change things, that it'll seem miraculous when the disease is under control in the short term.

Also, fuck m*di.
