Figuring a living situation

I thought I wrote on this topic, but then realized that I just copied and pasted the considerations from Google keep as a post and called it a day. It was fun but I didn't really explain the various tradeoffs and why I was making them, or the price points and logistics concerned. Here's more details. Look up for that post if you care. Search for 'alexan' on this blog if you know how, to get to the relevant post.

So the first concern was living near the city. I could have got amazing places inside Seattle if I'd compromised on the location, but that was not even in my calculus. I haven't lived in the heart of things...ever... and I want to be hosting when parents and/or friends and family come visit. In addition, I needed the possibility of good view so parents would see the 'point' of Seattle which means a few neighborhoods got cut out as well.

That left me with two major areas: the belltown and the capitol hill. Another major consideration for me was how close I'd be to friends and family, and since the people I intend to hang with regularly live in these neighborhoods.

So one of the other things I was looking for was them modern 'luxury' apartments. With covid and everything else happening in Seattle, rents in those otherwise prohibitively expensive apartments had cratered and all my friends have gotten great deals living in those. I was hoping to find one of those. It turns out if you're not willing to sign an annual lease, they don't apply to you, so in the end they end up coming up quite pricey.

In the end, the final consideration was between a place that was in lower queen anne, which is a bit up from belltown, in a modern luxury apartment that was only 5 floors tall, or a nice little old-fashioned apartment in the Capitol hill significantly cheaper. It's not confirmed yet, let's not count chickens before they're hatched. I took the latter option, for a few reasons. First, because it was significantly cheaper I could use the extra money for nice furniture, bike and basic amenities to survive these few months. Second, it was close to the grocery stores, a trip I intend to make quite a lot, so that was ideal. Third, it's close to all the restaurant and bars that my people hang out at, so I'll be able to host them before the going-out, and after coming back in, which is great because I've never had the honor to host despite always wanting to. And finally, it's closer to most of the gang, while being tactically far enough from people in the larger group I don't necessarily want to get to know better because you can only keep so many people close to your heart. You know?

Soo..yeah, I don't have a gym or elevator, or in-unit washer-dryer, but those amenities I can live without. All that matters to me is location, location, location.
