Frequently asked questions about the Greek sailors in town

Q. So these strange Yavanas who look so different and can't even speak our tongues, not even as much as our neighbouring countries, are they stupid or what?

A. These foreign sailors, traders, travellers, leaders and sadhus, they speak different tongues but are just like us! The lack of knowledge of our language is not stupidity, but ignorance on their side, they will understand our words as they spend more time on our shores talking to our people, getting to know us. The state asks all commoners to be mindful of our friends!

Q. Why do they use such strange vessels for their wines and drinks, do they not understand the detailed news of their pots offends the gods?

A. The Greeks are masters of pottery and metallurgy, their amphora containers for storing and pouring water and wine, of which they drink in ample amount those that made of grapes and not rice, are a point of pride and dignity. They carve images of tales of their deities in those containers as a way of respecting them. Therefore, We must not be judgemental of them and respect such vessels.

Q. Boggy, those Yavanas eh, they sure know how to have a good time!

A. Not a question. Regardless, the Yavanas are followers of their good Dionysis, who instructs them to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh. While those of us in these lands are limited by our traditions in options on how to enjoy, with whom and how many, they are not bound by the same rules. Indeed, one woman may have more than one husband with them, and cohabit, and it is common in their lands for those of the same nature to complete each other. While our books don't forbid such practices, it is not as common to celebrate such actions as they proudly do!
