This is a part of a side-story of the Appointments & Disappointments series I'm working on. It may or may not be addressed in the main plot, but questions questions, some issues must be addressed. It's also an easy way to tun up the conflict and drama if I feel like nothing much is happening in my story.
Who is asking these questions? Why are these questions being raised? How will different individuals be affected by honest, real answers to these questions, if they could ever be obtained?
Was it a murder? Who first raised the possibility of a murder? How could they possibly have managed to murder him, and have it look so inconspicuous? Why would they want him dead anyway? Did he have many enemies? Could it possibly have been some sort of insurance play? Or some sort of power grab? Is it misogynist to consider that the wife may have played a big part in all of this, considering the circumstances? Or is it the other way round and should it be considered patronizing to imaging women cannot scheme and murder their husbands for their personal gain?
Are the rumors true? Were there any rumors or are these ramblings of a deranged mind? What were the rumors? Did anyone even consider them seriously? Who even dared voice it in public? Or were they so obviously true that they didn't need to be told? And why are those rumors even being brought up in the same place as the conversation about the murder? Is the implication that they would murder her husband so they could live together? Why would they need to take all the risk and go through the trouble when they were having the good times either way? Or are these toxic backtalks, nothing is true, and this sort of gossip needs to be shut down?
Does the son suspect anything in the deepest darkest parts of his heart? Does he know about the two of them? Is there anything about the two of them, or are these just hypotheses? Have we really become so sex-obesessed that we can't respect great friendships? Was it just a friendship, or was there evidence to the contrary? Did they really have to share beds when the husband was away? Surely the son must have guessed something considering his generation and the sort of forward-looking people he hangs out with? Would he ever voice any of those deeply repressed thoughts even if he had reasons to believe there was something in there? And so what? He wouldn't try to implicate his loving mother, and the ever so loving aunt in anything, would he? Would he? Why is the default opinion that there's something to be implicated about?
Are the questions about them trying to take over the organization invalid? Isn't it true that they had all the control of the chain with him around anyway, and getting rid of him wouldn't gain them anything? What kind of mother would put all that trauma on her children, upon herself and her very close friend, for what seems to be like no gain?
Can't a man just die in peace? Is that the price you have to pay for fame and wealth, the various outlandish, offensive, and predatory hypotheses about your loved ones, after you die?
What has the world come to?
Why are we talking about this? Have the police and the authorities not shown zero interest in following up on the matter after all? Aren't the only people raising these hurtful questions the other business partners who want a greater share of the pie, or have the helpless young son be responsible, than two smart capable and ambitious women? Were they not the ones who sent the 'tips' to the papers of ill repute that publish in the evenings? Did the papers themselves not retract the gossip, and apologize to the concerned parties, even before there were talks of a lawsuit against them?
