I'm looking to get into a new art-related hobby, it's called gel printing. I haven't actively worked anything towards doing it besides watching maybe three dozen videos each lasting 30 minutes, all taken by old British or Australian ladies who just enjoy their lives and making art, for no other purpose than for the sake of it. How nice. It's like with me and chhyang. Everyone asks, what are you going to do with them, and yeah sometimes I like to drink them but consuming them is not the point, I enjoy the process. It's quite surprising how people don't get the 'point' of doing things even though they will themselves do many tasks that don't have clear expected output and are done for the sake of doing it. You don't learn to play a piano to become a famous pianist, you do it because you enjoy the process. You don't watch football (soccer in America) so you can get really good at football commentary, you do it because the act of doing so is enjoyable. There are so many things we as humans do because we enjoy doing them, and yet fail to see why others might do the same. Silly silly.
Back to the point, gel prints. I would need agar gel and glycerine (and maybe salt crystals which I obviously already have) to make the gel board. Then it's exactly like cooking, no big deal. After that I would need a paintbrush though I kind of already have that, maybe a 'brayer' to roll the paint around, a bunch of textured objects and things found in the nature that'll be fun to take an impression of, old magazines if I want them, and then paper. First I'll experiment with art paper, and the eventual goal is to put the art in my post cards so recipients get authentic gel printing results sent to them.
It's not terribly expensive to get started, it's not hard, it's just...without a proper guidance, I don't know where to get started from...We'll see where this goes, because i've definitely been interested in printing techniques as of late...
