His job interviews are coming up, and for this year I'm thinking of practicing a new interviewing techninque, which I'll call the 'reverse interview'. I will give him a couple of scenarios they'll likely to encounter as interviewee, and put themselves in the interviewer. I'll give them an assignment to consider the various variables they're considering, what they might look for in a candidate, and ask the right questions to tease out answers to those questions. I'll also give them two candidates per scenario, both of whom I'll play-act as, and interview me for 15 minutes per candidate. If I give them three scenarios, and two candidates per each, it'll prepare them for 6 interviews and how to think about them from an interviewer's perspective. This will help them understand how interviewers might think about candidates, how they might evaluate perspective employees, and what optimization variables they'll be considering when hiring for a position. Hopefully this is going to be an interesting practice.
If this works out I'm going to be practicing this on the entire cohort through my workshops...Let's see how this pans out...
