When the magician saws his assistant in half, it's not literally her body that's cut into two halves. There's smokes mirrors and trickery involved. That's the imagined American dream from above. Unreal unjust untrue that you are tricked into believing.
The returning, and the American dream
I'm on my fourth hour of my six hour Amtrak ride back to Boston. People in the train and masked well maintain social distancing etc. It was quite packed between Philly and NYC but it's gotten lighter since. The scenery from here is so much more interesting than i95. So many abandoned little towns buildings crumbling down unending parking lots and lots of wetlands. Tonnes and tonnes. And why the suburban houses with their nice large lawns and children playing in them. If I were a weaker man, Connecticut privilege could surely have lured me into the American dream. Nice hardworking partner nice house large yard reasonable commute cute kids and a couple of dogs all a very short distance from NYC, Boston Philly DMV. It's a mirage an illusion, it's a trick.
