Goodbye Google podcasts

Google podcasts is going away in April and I had been dreading changing to a new app. Then over the weekend I decided I had to make the jump, the uncertainty, confusion and lack of decision was a bigger hassle than anything else. So I did. Searched for an open-source app because I'm done with these creepy data-collecting apps that might go away at any point. The one I came up with is called Antenna podcast. It's not the perfect one, but it does do some things better than google did, and it's more of a 'power user' kind of tool anyway, the sort that I prefer. Besides, if there's something I don't like, I can always go in and mess around with the tooling and add my own contribution and side-load into my phone. So that's always an option.

A few days into using the Antenna app, I decided I didn't care for the old google podcasts app and uninstalled it. Goodbye google pod, you were a good friend to me for the past six or seven years, you were with me through thick and thin, but all things must end, specially those things that google doesn't see a clear path to monetization so here we are. Adios, and may you have a great journey in afterlife.
