I've discovered the 'time equivalence' between eastern and pacific time. It'll help me organize my schedule better

Almost three years into my Seattle move, I've finally figured it out. Friggin' finally figured it out.

What has hindered my proper organization of the daily schedule is this: I have so much free time in the evening, but that means one must get early in the morning, and has very little to no time for morning rituals. How might one organize one's personal timetable to align with one's work schedule, is the question I went in to get the answer of.

Then it hit me. The 'living in pnw, working est' isn't that big of a disruption as I thought. In fact it's a minor shift of 3 hours that's not really as big of a disruption as with other time zones.

Here's the thing: in Boston I was waking up at 6, doing 2 hours of morning chores including 1 hour of writing, and commuting 8-9. I got off work at 5, home at 6, and then 4.5 hours of free personal time in the evening. But that was when I was commuting. The remote work meant I had 3 hours for myself in the morning, and 5.5 hours in the evening, a total of 8.5 hours of personal time.

My days in Seattle still begin at 6, end at 10.30pm. No disruption there. My personal time (including 'commute' time) still exists between 5-10.30, no disruption there.

What's changed is that I've exchanged the morning hours between 6-9 that I had for myself, in exchange for 2-5, which makes a contiguous stretch of time I can use to do anything. But I haven't really cheated life, or really done anything outrageously out there.

How will this framing help me? It makes me understand that getting 2 hours of personal writing time is not hard, if I had it before, I have it now. It gives me the realization that my walking time is not 'free', I got it back by not commuting to work. And that I can 'afford' to walk for two hours and still maintain my former lifestyle. It makes me realize that going to bed now, and in the past are equivalent, I was stealing from my personal time then, now I'm stealing from the rest of my time because the 6am is sharp.

The one thing that's different, and great, is not a lot of things happen 6-9am, but many classes etc do happen at 2-5 PM, so I have 'bought' myself some significant flexibility thanks to the timeshift.

Makes sense now!
