Who in their right minds would support the royalists' proposal? To bring monarchy after all these was as outrageous a concept as anything.
Thing was, the communists had run out of any steam, no direction, no agenda and not even a single dedicated cadre anymore. Nobody believed in anything, and the public definitely knew the communists didn't believe in communism, or any sort of principle. Now if a King were to suddenly show up, that would be a great gift, for that'd be a cause to fight against. Establishing a republic against the royalty was the perfect cause. They needed to establish plausible deniability to not look complicit in the voting. They could jigger something up.
