Eating out in Seattle is expensive

Unclear why, but Seattle is an expensive city to eat out in. Anything beyond the fast food places is expensive as heck. A one-appetizer shared among two and a simple entree per person goes mid-to-high twenty bucks. Often places will add 20% gratuity automatically and then expect you to contribute extra tips on top of that.

In terms of rent and other expenses, Seattle is cheaper than Boston. Except eating out, and sometimes groceries. I proposed to coworker GF that perhaps it's the higher minimum wage here, but they were pretty definitive on how that's unlikely to be the case. It's confusing how Seattle, which is maybe not even in the top 7 most expensive cities in the country feels more expensive than Manhattan while eating out.

It's a bit of bummer, but there's a good number of affordable takeout restaurants still, all is not lost. Yet, anyway.
