The Korean place ran out of rice

How do things like these even happen? This is going to be a short one.

I've referred to this incident in the past. A couple of weeks ago here in the new city we went on a hunt for a restaurant pretty late night. Not TOO latenight, mind you, but decently late enough that most Asian restaurants would have shut down. We discovered this Korean place in East Lake that was open, drove there for fifteen minutes, and waited to be seated.

The server told us they were ready to seat us and take our orders, except that they ran out of rice. Fearing total denial of dinner, we hurriedly said we'd eat noodles instead, sending him back to setup the table. but we got talking. How. on. earth. does. an. asian. place. a. korean. one. run. out. of.rice. It's one of the wildest concepts out there. Did they not plan right, did nobody check the pantry for how much rice was remaining? Or did they have such great rice there that the customers just went hogwild on it and prematurely finished their rice? Or did something catastrophic happen to their rice supplies. Either way, there wasn't a good way to wrap our head around the lack of rice, and now that we'd been told there'd be no rice we suddenly wanted rice. We snuck out of the place, ready to drive for who knows how much longer, in search for a bowl of warm filling rice.
