I ordered some Russian Dumplings from Pel Mani dumplings Tzar, a local restaurant in my neighborhood. The concept intrigued me.
The dumplings -- potatoes, I got the potato ones -- were drenched in the sauce rich in vinegar and dill. Far, far too much dill, in my opinion. And such strong vinegar, my apartment smelled like vinegar for days. Besides that the dumplings were pretty decent, would be great as a drunk-person food.
And then somebody suggested if they were anything like perogies, and I realized actually they tasted exactly like them, except maybe differently shaped? I mean one's from Poland, the other from Russia, they've got the same wrappers, the same innards, it's just the shape that's different. So yeah, it's like eating perogies in dill-vinegar sauce.
