Ready for the party

Neither, neither was the answer.

In a situation like this it was not good to go to the invited party. It was so clearly not an honest invitation. They invited her because she was with the group and it would have been awkward if everyone was going but her. So they said, ohh of course you have to come too. There was no need for them to have, really and they must have realized that. So insistent they were on why she must be there, working too hard at it almost. When she showed up they would be surprised she came, there were no shared interests or conversations to be had. They were film people had the insider gossip of the industry and were probably not too keen on getting a journalist leaking everything in their midst.

On the other hand rejecting the offer straight away wouldn't look good for her. She wasn't invited to too many good parties despite working on industry-adjacent field and letting go of this opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities would be a bad idea. And for what, for her ego's sake because it wanted a proper proper invitation and not just ohhh you have to come too as the last option of last resort. What more did she want than the facebook invitation and the private text message from the popular actress and the part owner of the most happening restaurant this side of Bagmat? The host had even included a smiley face, that was as honest as it got!

And yet and yet and yet.

It didn't feel right she wasn't an insider she would get lost in the sea of the popular and the known. Her friends, as nice as they were, had there own circles and interests. She couldn't rely on them to keep her company through the night.

She would go.

She would say hi to everyone make a big toast or something act drunk and make a funny joke some non-sequitor a memorable event of some kind tonnes of selfies with the important people while they were still sober -- she'd tag them later so everyone knew she had been a serious presence -- and be out of the place before 11. It wasn't due to the curfew, it was flexible now. Besides the film people were skeevy unreliable. If Hollywood could have so many horror stories and criminal cases surely the Nepali film industry was no better. She had to be in full control of her senses and make it out before anyone lost theirs.

She wrote down a reminder to pack pepper spray in her handbag.

A faint attempt at taking the appointments and disappointments series ahead.
