Turkey season is here, beware

I imagine this is not going to be too far of a controversial statement when I say that Turkey meat is often the hardest meat to not mess up, very very few people get it right and when they do it's not worth the effort chicken would have been so much better anyway, americans don't know how to cook lean white meat and generally turkey meat has no taste it's one of the worst kinds of meat the lamest tamest most annoying meat anyone can ever eat. It's the white paper of meats. I want to say it's the 'vanilla' of meats but don't want to insult vanilla flavor because it's actually a pretty great flavor and there's something in there, it's because it's so common and well-liked people associate it with normalcy but by itself there's a lot of material in it. Unlike turkey which is a hollow empty pale imitation of what real bird meat should be like.

Having said that, I have nothing personal against Turkey birds themselves. They're sweet, whatever, cool creatures quite big interesting plumage and native to the united states particularly to the Northeast.

I bring this up because earlier today I saw a large quite brave Turkey strutting about in the middle of the street at Union Square in Somerville. Strutting around, full plumage, daring anyone to mess with it and see how they'll end up. The turkey terror is a common occurrence in these parts around September/October when the wild ones show up around the burbs or walk through the bushes into towns and terrify/entertain the locals. There's way wayyy too many posts in the Boston forums in the internet about their habits, their aggressive nature and people put up thousands of posts daily with photos of turkeys. It's wild, the turkeys and how the northeasterners react to their appearance every goddamn fall as if it's a surprise.

They're cool, and certainly more interesting than the rabbits that I've worried for in the past because they're lean and stressed out. The turkey that I saw yesterday was in such great shape... puffed body shiny colorful feathers and all it wouldn't be that much of a surprise to me if someone said it was a domestic pet someone had taken out on a walk.

In any case, it's worth the caution...remember the turkeys are not innocent creatures and they will attack you if you provoke them or if they believe they can beat you up in a fair matchup. Beware of the turkeys, beware.
