I was quite low on motivation on Sunday evening, and ended up not doing anything during the course of the entire day. Not a walk, no yoga class, not even meditation etcetera. In the evening I got access to the netflix SK installed in it many months ago, and watched this new animated series already abandoned by netflix called Captain fall.
It's a 'euro animation' if there's ever such a thing. The lines are simple, the lead character is simple, stupid and gullible, to the point of annoyance from most viewers. He has very few redeeming characteristics. He ends up being hired as a patsy for a very dangerous international gang of criminals who happen to own a cruise ship who will stop at nothing: animal torture and murder of extinct species, mass human murder for 'harvesting' organs, slavery, kidnapping for sexual slavery etcetera etcetera. The show is violent to the point of parody, and that makes everything go down easier. People online have called it a different iteration of the now-cancelled show Inside Job and it is in a way, but it's a lot closer to reality seeing as its based on the real world, and something resembling this world could be existing right now.
I love the sensibilities of the series, created by two Norwegian directors. It's slow-paced and relishes in the building of this crazy-violent yet still apathetic world. Just like the one we live in, but oh-so-slightly different. I love the character affectations and choices, I love the depth given to even the most throwaway of characters. I love the sense of humor of the show, and I really enjoyed the style of animation. In my ideal world, this would be the Bojack Horseman of the mid-2020's.
9 out of 10 stars, highly recommended if you don't mind dark animated comedy and lots of animated violence.
