After almost a half-year of telling everyone it was just around the corner, I'm doing it, I'm finally doing it people! I started my hydroponic herb garden the other day. I got basil, rosemary, oregano, and mint. I realized for the bazillionth time that the best thing mint has going for itself is the incredibly powerful marketing brand and the association with 'freshness' and not much else, it's more of a pest and weed than everything else.
Herbs have been my white elephant. I've tried growing them since mid 2017's, unsuccessfully at every turn for a variety of reasons. Basil plants just die out indoors no matter how hard one tries to keep them alive and thriving. So the hydroponics experiment is a test to see if consistent lighting and nutritious base solution was all they needed. if this works out I intend on incorporating them into my cooking and drinks, and even making ingredients using them, such as pesto. But that could be a tall call seeing as I don't know anything about caring for them.
Friend N claims he had to get rid of his hydroponic garden because they started popping up all over the place and there wasn't much he could do, which is why he moved on to flowers. Well I have never had to suffer from the curse of abundance, so that is a problem I'd like to have. We'll figure out how having too much of good thing can go horribly wrong when I do have the good thing.
